here are a couple random shots. this first one is of some llamas that i took a picture of and then the owner came chasing after me with his animals to get me to pay for the picture i took. i just told him "no gracias." here is jillian with a chilean drink called 'mote.' it is like peach juice with barley in the bottom of the cup. pretty good. here is what we have to eat for about two of our three meals per day. bread, cheese, palta (avocado), and tomato. yummy.
On Sunday we took a hike up a large hill here in Santiago called Cerro San Cristobal. We thought it would be a dirt path with no one around but we were wrong. There was a zoo there, and a gondola, and a trolley going up to the top also. Here are some pics.
This is the castle-like building that was the entrance to the trolley. Here's Jillian. La virgen. A & J w/ Santiago behind us. No se que es. A head on a rock? Smoggy Santiago from above.
santiago, a city of 6 million people, is currently undergoing a complete 100% change of bus routes and payment system. it officially took place on saturday and many people were to lose their jobs and riot. the city and the bus and metro system were supposed to be chaos. though not much happened, they were prepared. this is a picture of a zorro, guanaca, and one other riot surpressing vehicle. the front one sprays tear gas and the second one has guns on top that spray water like fire hoses. cool eh?
the andes from our plane where's josh? can you find our field director with the 'world teach' sign waiting for us? our luggage on the truck to the hostel our room with a bed and a small tv jillian in the doorway to our room a sign the courtyard of our hostel
well, i've succeeded in deleting our whole blog with all of the entries that we have made so far. in trying to read the settings for the blog in spanish i hit the red button which i though was "save settings" it was "delete blog." well, now we've started afresh with the beginning of our trip to chile
Well, we completely packed out my brother's van so we could hardly fit in it and came down to Denver. We are going to be here for a couple days and then we are off to Chile. It still hasn't really registered, but we are still excited. We'll keep you posted!
so we leave on february 8th for chile. we found out that we will be living in vina del mar. we might be living with a chilean lady, but don't know for sure yet. we are very exciting. vina del mar is on the coast, so that will be interesting considering that we have always been landlocked!! i am going to be teaching there, and andy will be teaching in valparaiso. the two cities are very close to eachother. we are busy getting ready. we will post asap once we get down there.
